Making 10!
Today's game is called, "Erase" which practices the important skill of making 10 and adding longer strings of numbers together.
Did you know? Over the past few decades, research has shown how important learning the combinations that make 10. Combinations of 10 have been a significant focus in countries that top the list in math achievement(Fuson & Keon. 1992).
You will need:
a deck of cards (ace=1 and queens= 0)
scratch paper or a journal to keep math game work in/pencil or pen
How to play:
Each player gets 7 cards.
If you can make 10 with any 2 of the cards, those numbers get “erased”.
Add up the total from the other cards, which becomes your score for that round.
The player with the lowest score wins that round and gets a point. The first one to 10 wins!
This game will be enjoyed by kids ages 5-9 and their parents, guardians and caregivers.
Variations: Designate a face card to be a “wild” card! Allow younger students to use a calculator to total their scores. The goal of this game is the practice “making 10”.
